Kreg Tool
Recently, the workshop received the Kreg Master System. We have used the Kreg product for years and we were excited to receive the Master Jig. Kreg speaks of quality and never fails to deliver. Kreg products are usable straight out of the box.
At the same time we needed to retire an old faithful workbench. Kreg has always been reliable for our cabinet making, why not try it on the bench. In the old bench we used the standard woodworking joints. Lets see if we can construct a solid bench with pocket holes. The idea was that different parts of the bench ware out quicker than others. Moving forward we could simply replace parts rather than the entire bench.
Construction began. Two woodworkers took on the challenge. One was making the cuts while the other was in charge of assembly. One piece cut, the pockets drilled and the action repeated. After fifteen minutes all the pieces were cut and the pockets drilled. Center measurements were made and the pieces were assembled. This process took 30 minutes. We are now 45 minutes into construction.
We decided to use the original bench top in the beginning. We attached the completed frame to the bench top and added the vise. This took another 20 minutes. Now, after only one hours work the new bench was complete and ready for use. The bench that it replaced took six hours to construct.
The strength of the completed bench was equal to others with box and dovetail joints. The ease of use was second to none. There are countless reviews out there on Kreg Tools. Many complain of the price. Our reviewed Kreg set retail’s for around $140.00. With what is supplied and the quality of the product, it is worth more. The product is nearly indestructible.
