Oneida
The Oneida Dust collection system has become a mainstay in the shop. The model we received came with the complete kit. The kit included: The cyclone, mounting hardware, hose, two collection buckets, lid and the hardware to mount the system directly to the vacuum.
Setup of the system was very easy. The cyclone needed to be attached to the lid with the included hardware. The system was up and running in no time.
We installed the Cyclone in line to our gate dust collection system. The system uses a Ridgid vacuum. Upon first startup we opened each gate and checked the suction. At each gate the system maintained peak suction.
As with most reviews of this devise, we swept every bit of saw dust we could find into one large pile. Next, we cleaned and emptied the canister, cleaned the filter and began the test. We swept the heaping pile of dust. We moved the hose to each gate in the system as we proceeded. You could see the dust fly down the pipe then enter and spin in the cyclone. We filled the bucket within 2” from the top and/or bottom of the cyclone. The system seemed to maintain the same amount of suction from beginning to end.
Satisfied with our test and sure we saturated both the Oneida bucket as well as the vacuum canister we tore the system down. First the Oneida bucket. Our findings showed that the dust was densely packed inside the bucket. The cyclone handled both dust, debris and small strips of wood.
Next we opened the vacuum. To our surprise there was hardly a speck of dust in the canister. The filter itself appeared untouched.
The cyclone lived up to what it was said to do. In the past we have made our own style of separator container out of a 5-gallon bucket and some PVC pipe and fittings. The results were no where near what the Oneida accomplished. By having the cyclone above the lid the system allows for complete separation of the dust.
Overall the Oneida Dust Cyclone is a rugged hard plastic unit that works great in our small shop or at a specified tool. We do not have the setup to compare the Oneida to an industrial dust collector. However; for shop’s that rely on shop vac vacuums and the like it is the perfect addition to your dust collection system.
Pros: Rugged design. Easy setup. The reviewed system comes with everything your need to get started. Works as described.
Cons: It was a stretch to find anything bad in this united. The only thing we could come up with is that it stands tall. However, this is only based on the setup of our shop and not a true reflection of the product.
